There was in the early twentieth century there was an ongoing Light Rail Trolley System that was intend to connect Patchogue, Sayville, Setauket to Port Jefferson. It was a Storage Battery System, but the population didn’t grow fast enough to support it and its last run was in 1919.           The LIRR reached Patchogue in 1862 going from steam to Diesel with the line only electrified to Babylon .
